About Us

Del Monte Electric was founded in 1938 in Pacific Grove, California as a subsidiary of Stolte Construction. The company was originally located on Del Monte Cannery property and performed work exclusively for the cannery.

Foster Daoust took over management of Del Monte Electric in 1944 and moved the company to the Bay Area. To keep up with construction demand in Contra Costa County, Foster opened a branch office in Walnut Creek in 1968. Robert Daoust purchased the company from his father in 1983. Robert concentrated on work in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and assembled a team of highly qualified electricians and office staff that could take on any project in the bay area.

John Hunter purchased Del Monte Electric in 2000 and oversees all operations as president of the company. In 2004, the company moved from its Hayward and Concord offices into its new 16,000 square foot building in Dublin. This building was purchased and modernized to provide a permanent and central location to operate with sufficient size and flexibility for future growth. John sold a minority interest in the company to Scott Mullins in 2014. Scott oversees the daily operations of the company in his role as vice president. Del Monte performs work in all nine Bay Area Counties and Northern California.

Del Monte Electric is a responsible, financially solid company with a 75 year track record of successfully completed projects ranging in size from $50 thousand to over $10 million. Our annual volume averages approximately $25-$35 million per year. Our excellent track record has earned us a bond rating of less than one percent with a bonding capacity of $25 million.

The company has completed thousands of projects and has come to specialize in hospitals, schools, solar installations, design/build projects, office buildings, and tenant improvements. Through the years, we have found that our true talents and expertise are most beneficial on complex projects with aggressive schedules.

We employ approximately fifteen salaried overhead employees in our Dublin office and peak at approximately 200 electricians in the field. Our site foremen and project management teams are responsible for completing each project in a first-class manner to the satisfaction of the client. We are able to assist our clients in all aspects of the electrical work, from pre-construction budgets and value engineering to proper installation techniques and jobsite safety.

Del Monte Electric has an experienced, motivated, and knowledgeable group of foremen, some of which have been with the company over 20 years. Our foremen have over four hundred years of combined experience in the electrical industry. All of our foremen have completed rigorous IBEW training and are required to continue their education by attending IBEW and NECA sponsored classes on topics such as motor control, fire alarm wiring, jobsite safety, energy management wiring, etc. All of our electricians are state certified.

Our Goal

Our goal is to continue to grow the company while maintaining the reputation that has been built over the years. We will accomplish this by teaming with first-class general contractors and owners that understand the importance of hiring quality subcontractors. We want to build long-term relationships that generate repeat business. We understand that your goal is to assemble a construction team that can build a quality job on schedule and within budget. We know that this requires a great deal of experience, coordination and willingness to resolve the inevitable problems that occur along the way. We have the ability and desire to do this.
